Postcards from New Zealand

These are some of the memorable mementos I picked up from the shops during my recent trip to New Zealand. Hope you will enjoy viewing them while waiting for my own pending on arrival of my camera gadgets.

The Rotorua Museum of Arts and History with flower beds and Bowling Green in the foreground.

Top Left: Band Rotunda
Top Centre: Bath House, Government Gardens
Top Right: Waitukei created by Lyonel Grant and unveiled in 2001 to mark the new millenium.

Bottom Left: Bath House and Band Rotunda
Bottom Right: Blue Bath House

Ohinemutu, Rotorua was once the main Maori settlement on Lake Rotorua. The building is St. Faiths Anglican Church, built in Tudor style in 1910 and added to in 1965. In front of the church is a bust of Queen Victoria (bottom right), a gift to the Arawa in 1870, from Prince Albert, the country's first royal visitor.

On the left is a Bell Tower
Top Right: Canoe Poi (Maori Cultural Dance)
Bottom Right: A Meeting House

To the Left is the spectacular Pohutu Geyser
Top Right is a Maori Warrior
Bottom Right is a Native Kiwi (bird) and egg.

It is from this native bird where white New Zealander are otherwise known as Kiwi; while white Australians of English origin are known as "Convicts". That is just name calling in making fun of themselves.

Rotorua is located north of Taupo, about over an hour drive by the car. A very beautiful place with lots more of surprises blessed with Mother Nature's gifts. There's more to come.

Cheers!

  9. Beautiful postcards. Sure, the places featured are beautiful too. Is Maori an ethnic group in New Zealand?

  11. Interesting post. I had never heard of Rotorua. I live in Connecticut and don't know much about the Southern Hemisphere.

I like how you displayed the post cards.
