A DREAM BOAT

Someone's dream of a ship adventure brings back a speck of memory in my travel department. But first, let's find out what it means:
"To dream of a ship symbolizes your awareness of your present state of mind and feelings. The type of ship reflects your current emotional state. A cruise ship implies that you are feeling satisfied and are in high spirits." ~Dreamforth
I reckon there is a current satisfaction in my present state of the heart.

Many years ago, going places divided by the ocean or sea means taking a passenger motorboat or aboard a ship liner. It's a poor man's affordable conveyance.

I travelled by ship when I studied in a university located from across the big island where we lived. I travelled by ship each opportunity I go to the north and back which rarely happened.

When all the passengers were asleep, all lights off, and things were quiet and still; I would wander around the deck top alone under the scrutiny of few graveyard shifts' ship staff who were doing their rounds. There I would look up the sky to watch the tiny blinking stars, the dark blue sphere of the night, observed the movement of the clouds and the hazy mist of the water caused by bubbly foams and sprinkles as the ship lower bow ploughed the sea surface.

There I would feel the winds, hear them echoing in my solitary realm, if not whispering my name into my ears. Its spirit would lead me to dance to its music. Of course, that was in my imaginary world only. But I always love the soft breeze of the sea air that iodised my whole being. The soft air that would take my mind to some poetic kingdoms that were known to me alone. And there I would sit down under the tree of its quiet garden and write my heart out in my spirit tablet with a piece of a bird's dried plucked feather I picked up on the ground, inked with a purple violet sap, on a broken piece of dried bark that fell off the tree. The solicitude of the moment was a paradise to me!

Back from my mesmerising reverie, I would walk around with my hands holding onto the rails as I curiously surveyed the sea, breathed in the salty air, looked down the water trying to spy jumping creatures, whales, sharks, turtles, flotsams and God knows what else. When there was nothing to spy on as those species might had been too busy on their own somewhere, my mind too was busy grinding thoughts wondering what's beyond the horizon and what people do on the other side of the world.

I too had dreamt on sailing in the ocean, of course by a ship liner. And far too many times. While the scenario in most dreams were pleasant and 'joie de vivre', the dreamwork conveyed a different meaning which were most applicable to my life experiences.
"To dream that you are sailing in the ocean indicates that you are adept at handling confused or turbulent feelings." ~Dreamforth
All too often, it is always a very lonely journey in my life, be it on water and on land. Each sojourn has made me kind of a vagabond with all the meanderings that come with it.
